In the spring we had three beautiful Morgan foals: Merriewold Kona, Kirin and Kasey… all from the cross RG Stuarts Monarch x Caduceus Marika.  Both the sire and dam are considered “foundation” stock by the ”Foundation Morgan Horse Society “.

On May 10th we had our first Merriewold ‘OPEN BARN’ party.  More that 80-90 guests toured the property, met our wonderful Morgans, had lunch and listened to music.  A great time was had by all.

We bred two mares in 2008 to foal in 2009:  Caduceus Marika x Gulfwind Sir William  and Willowist Promise to Keep x Rosevale Leggo.  We are very excited about their arrival.

In the summer we had our forth foal Merriewold Kandie….Rosevale Leggo x Majesty My Fair Lady, a very fancy bay filly with lots of attitude and according to Sally at Saralin Morgan Horse Farm,  beautiful naturally athletic gaits.

2008 was a very active year for training at MWM.  Merriewold Harmony continued with Luman Wadhams in Vermont where she is trying out saddle seat and driving.  Merriewold Galaxie continued with Sally Anderson in Montana.  Sally took Gal to two open rated dressage shows and they earned high 60’s in her training level classes.  After nationals Merriewold Hanah went to Jennifer McFall at Dragonfire Farm to begin her under saddle training.
     

Jackie Brittain was very busy throughout the year training at Merriewold.  Early in the year Merriewold Hanah and Merriewold Hero were getting the  ground training that is needed prior to starting under saddle.  Hero was then started by Jaime Hernandez of Varian Arabians and soon after continued his work with Jackie.  Jackie says Hero is really fun to ride.  Flower of Georgia continued her training with Jackie and has gained muscle and suppling and is moving in a forward and athletic way.  Jackie also started Merriewold Gaysha and has been working with her throughout the year.  She is a joy to ride and Jackie is very happy with her progress.

Finally, three of our horses found new homes in 2008.
Nancy and Bruce Nething of Thirsty Creek Ranch purchased Ringbrook Renaissance, “Crystal” who was in foal to MEMC Tequila Cuervo.  They had a beautiful dark palomino filly!
Stacy McLain purchased Merriewold Fabien and plans to take him on long trail rides.
Marian Meier purchased WNC Rocket Man from Jackie and is now going to her first Dressage shows.

The November issue of, ‘The Morgan Horse’ is the sport horse issue.  This November featured a tribute to and front page photo of Lyonhil Quasar, Morgan sport horse stallion.  Quasar is the sire of Merriewold Hanah, and Merriewold Fabien.  We were surprised and happy to see our ad on the inside front cover!

Merriewold Harmony  (Beethoven x Majesty My Fair Lady) is continuing her training after taking some time off to grow and mature.  In the next month Luman Wadhams and Harmony will decide what direction her training will take her.  Thank you Luman for the photos.

Merriewold Kirin (RG Stuarts Monarch x Caduceus Marika) is now seven months old and we really like this filly.  She and her two 2008 siblings Kona and Kasey have strong Morgan sport horse pedigrees, exceptionally sweet dispositions, good bone, and ample size.  As a plus they also have that beautiful Morgan ‘type’.

Merriewold Hero (Bethesda Carbon Copy x MJVM Serena) is going well under saddle.  Jackie Brittain says that he enjoys the work and is a quick learner.  Hero is by the Wyoming Flyhawk son Carbon Copy who has many World Champion ribbons in Dressage.   Hero is out of the Caduceus program’s stallion producer MJVM Serena.

Hanah (Lynohil Quasar x Moonsets Reflection) and Hero (Bethesda Carbon Copy x MJVM Serena)are three years old and beginning their formal training.  Both have had extensive ground training with Jackie Brittain and  are ready to start the ‘under saddle’ phase.  Hanah will go to Jennifer Mc Fall at Dragonfire Farm in early November.  Hero was started under saddle with Jaime Hernandez and now Jackie  is continuing his training.

Merriewold Kasey

Kasey is now six months old. He has a beautiful Morgan head and laid back shoulder, solid bone and a sweet, ‘in your pocket’ personality.  Kasey’s pedigree includes the well known individuals from the sport horse breeding programs of The Brunk, Funquest and Caduceus lines: Funquest Monarch, Patchett Hill, Wyoming Flyhawk, Caduceus Exira.
